Who is Yasmine Jane ?

I met with Yasmine at the trendy and colourful ‘Tonight Josephine’ bar in Shoreditch for a friendly chat about her ascending career; she is so enchanting and upbeat that we ended up talking for well over an hour about her music, style, aspirations and beliefs.

Yasmine Jane is an English singer and songwriter- currently living in London. She has a Masters degree from Tileyard Studios; same Studios that birthed worldwide known artists such as Ella Eyre, Sigala and Tiggs Da Author.

‘Come a little closer’ is Yasmine’s latest single, and it’s quickly becoming one of her most praised and recognised songs. The incredibly catchy and moving lyrics mixed with its upbeat melody make up for a great feel good tune with an undeniable summer feel to it.

It was during our chat that I came to know her biggest musical inspirations and therefore got an insight on how ‘Come a little closer’ was produced:

Tell us all about ‘Come a little closer’. Lyrically it’s somewhat a sad song but yet you chose to make it quite upbeat, can you explain why?

“So that song was actually from when I was at Tileyard, it was a course I was doing- my stuff before was more urban and something wasn’t really clicking. We were given the beat and I wrote the lyrics with a friend and really good songwriter Elizabeth Mack, we wrote down what it made us feel."

"It is a sad song I was going through a rough patch, but then it’s a song about knowing that a relationship is over and that’s obviously really sad but you have to cherish the good times, it’s better to have loved than to never love at all. ”

Tell us about your relationship with music and its industry?

“I was writing songs when I was five, about a blue bear and singing in front of the mirror, I’ve always loved music. It’s a really hard industry, you have to have luck, a lot of its luck. It’s a people’s business, but I love it."

When I got into Tileyard I cried because it was everything I ever wanted to do. I was signed in August and it was really exciting, I’ve got some amazing management- she really sees my vision and it’s amazing. Everything that I wanted is really coming to life now.”

If you were to compartmentalize your music into a genre what would it be, and is there a specific artist that you look up to?

“I think it is a mix of genres. I think it’s obviously and undeniably pop, but it has hints of indie, Electronic music and even R&B. I find it hard to put a stamp on it."

"My ultimate favourite band is The 1975, I’m like obsessed. I just think that Matt Healy is a genius. Dua Lipa is also amazing and Ariana Grande smashes it all the time, but then I also like Blondie and Bon jovi."

In one word can you try and describe how it makes you feel to perform live?

“I would say amazing but that’s cliché. It’s just out of this world

Are you currently working on more music? An album or some performances?

“At the minute I have a club campaign for ‘Come a little closer’. It’s going really well, people are really liking the song."

"I also have a new one coming out and it’s called ‘Rules’, and it’s an upbeat song. I feel you can hear the growth in the music. We’ve got some hook ups from London fashion week and I’m getting this amazing video director, and I just love his work, were going to shoot that in March."
